Is ToothZone a network provider for my insurance company?
ToothZone is an In-Network provider for numerous insurance groups. We file your claims electronically to your insurance company as a courtesy to you. (For other financial questions, check out our Financial Page.)A WORD ABOUT INSURANCE - It is important to understand that insurance companies generally base their profitability on the least expensive, professionally acceptable, ethical treatment . . . not necessarily what is in the patient’s best, long term interest.
- At ToothZone WE BELIEVE THAT QUALITY OF CARE GOES BEYOND INSURANCE COVERAGE. We make decisions based on the unique needs of each child, not based on what is the most profitable. We believe YOU WILL find that the value we give in dental care will far exceed the costs of that care. In short, we are advocates for the kids, not insurance profits.
How do I prevent cavities in my young child’s teeth? Good oral hygiene removes bacteria and left-over food particles that can combine to create cavities. This is critical for young children to learn. - For infants, use a wet gauze or clean wash-cloth to wipe the plaque from their gums.
- Once your child’s teeth begin to erupt, brush them at least twice a day.
- A pea size amount of fluoride toothpaste can be used after the child is old enough - NOT to swallow it.
When teaching your Toddler to brush... - Place the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle; start along the gum line with a SOFT bristle brush in a gentle circular motion.
- Flossing should begin when any two teeth touch each other.
- You should brush and floss your child’s teeth until he or she can do it alone in a proper manner.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends regular dental check up once every six months, this will help start your child on a lifetime of good dental health. - Healthy eating habits lead to healthy teeth. Like the other systems of the body, the teeth, bones and the soft tissues of the mouth need a well-balanced diet. Children should eat a variety of foods from the major food groups and avoid snacks containing sugar. Soda and high sugar content juices are major contributors to the development of cavities in young children
- Avoid putting your child to bed with a bottle of juice or milk. Simply give them bottle of fresh water. This will help prevent a serious form of decay common among young children - referred to as bottle rot (baby bottle tooth decay). This condition is caused by frequent and long exposures of an infant’s teeth to liquids that contain sugar. Among these liquids are milk (including breast milk), formula, fruit juice and other sweetened drinks.
- X-rays are a excellent cavity-detecting tool particularly when a child’s teeth have grown together and we cannot get a good visual exam between the teeth. Also the amount of radiation in dental X-rays is so small it is barely measurable…. it is actually equivalent to your child being outdoors for about 6 hours.
What are preventive resins and why should my child have them?
- Preventive resins are a procedure that is used to protect permanent teeth and actually decrease the chance of cavities to the chewing surface of the teeth by 84%. Here at ToothZone we use a resin composite material that is a step above the “sealant” material commonly used for this procedure.
- Preventative Resins, otherwise known as Protective Sealants: We often recommend protective resins be applied to your child's molars to prevent decay on hard-to-clean surfaces.
Why don’t you allow parents to accompany their child during treatment?
- One thing we have experienced is that children do much better with one authority figure in much the same way a teacher guides a child one-on-one. We create a school like environment so your child is comfortable following directions. Parents in the clinic area act as a second authority figure which can lessen the child’s focus for directions. For that reason, we have parents in our clinic area by invitation only after the cleaning or when the appointment is done.
If my child needs Nitrous Oxide for a procedure, how long does it take to leave his/her system?
- The ratio of nitrous oxide to oxygen is 50% and only takes 3-5 minutes for it to leave your child’s system once they begin to breathe normal air.
Stay tuned, we will have more FAQ's posted soon.
